Silvan Prayogo Resigned From Semarang Magic Community

I, Silvan Prayogo, had been a member of Semarang Magic Community (SMC) since the 27th of July 2010 and was elected as the captain of Semarang Magic Community on July 2011. I resigned from Semarang Magic Community on the seventh of July 2012 and therefore effectively ended my service as their captain. I also no longer participate in the management of SMC's Facebook and Twitter since my resignation.

SMC has made great progress and achievements in its two years of existence, aside from regular gatherings and magic show events, such as:

• The first Indonesian magic organization to have an official and well - managed website.
• The first Indonesian magic organization to have official and well - managed internet social medias.
• The first Indonesian magic organization to attend AMA - FISM general board meeting to apply for an AMA membership.
• The first Indonesian magic organization to host a magic convention in Indonesia with an overseas magic organization. Hence, Garuda Merlion Magic Convention with IBM 115 Singapore.
• The first Indonesian magic organization to host the most economical magic convention with an overseas magic organization in Indonesia. Two - days magic convention (with dinner) at a cost of Rp. 100 000 ($USD 11) for SMC members and Rp. 150 000 ($USD 16) for non - SMC members.

Hopefully SMC may progress further with better dedication from its members.

The 11th Magic Gathering of Semarang Magic Community: Magic and Comedy

After previous months excitements, Semarang Magic Community held the 11th Magic Gathering on Monday, the 18th of June 2012 in Manggala Food Court, Semarangcity, Indonesia. The gathering was rather unique because it highlighted comedy-themed magic shows. Thus, the 11th Semarang Magic Community Magic Gathering had outrageously hilarious  stand up comedian guest stars, Mr. Agung Siomay and Wowot. They successfully brought out the funny side of magic although they are not magicians.

This brilliant gathering was opened for public viewing and organized by Bebbo Denoberto who specialized in comedy magic. He was also the MC during our 11th magic gathering. Bebbo Denoberto creatively threw quizzes. Those who were the first to correctly answer the quizzes won magic tricks.

The entry ticket for the 11th magic gathering was Rp. 5000 (±$USD 0.50) per person (member price) and Rp. 10 000 (± $USD 1) per person (non-member). Ticket price did not include dinner and drinks.

The  gathering announced Semarang Magic Community's next public events (stay tune!). Furthermore, membership cards will no longer be issued (for new members) and reproduced (for current members) as of June 18 2012 because funds will be allocated mostly for activities and promotions.

Abdullah Alaydrus from Salatiga city (± 1 hour drive from Semarang) opened tonight's entertainment with his linking ring routine. Audiences gasped when Abdullah Alaydrus threw one of the rings high in the air and immediately linked when it landed onto another ring.

Wowot escorted audiences into stand up magic comedy routine. He threw a few funny comments about magic and magicians. Wowot also shared his magic skills such as how to teach hypnotism. That's right, he taught us how to teach hypnotism. Then, he taught us how to kill a clan of mosquitoes with our wallets.

Semarang Magic Community was also honored by one of the young members, Yustika Fatima, who presented her school handy craft work. Yustika Fatima is a junior high school student. Yustika Fatima claimed she spent hours to make the handy craft. It is the Semarang Magic Community logo made of wool strings. Her school teacher awarded an A grade for her handy craft.

After dinner, El Cazo DeJavu demonstrated his bizarre magic routine such as inserting objects (nails, spoon, and knife) into his nostrils. He claimed that his power came from a magic lucky charm hidden inside a white envelope. El Cazo then invited one of the audiences to try the lucky charm. El Cazo DeJavu sliced the audience's arm with a large chopping knife. Amazingly, nothing happened to the arm. Uncle Valentino challenged El Cazo's magic power. Uncle Valentino refused to El Cazo's lucky charm. Uncle Valentino sliced his own arm with the large knife. Inevitably, he bleed. Audiences were shocked for awhile until Uncle Valentino announced that it was all a prank to fool everyone. He was ok. Audiences laughed with a relief.

Agung Siomay, a senior stand up comedian, took the stage for his hilarious stand up comedy routine. He shared his occupation-changing experience and relates it to the life of magicians. Agung Siomay taught us (magicians) how to deliver funny stories in our magic routines.

The magic gathering was nicely ended with Uncle Valentino magic show. He performed the levitation magic, umbrella productions, and many more. Funny mishaps happened during his shows. Audiences laughed while wondering how did the magic happen.

Semarang Magic Community was great honored to perform magic shows at Trangkil Sugar Factory in Pati city, Central Java Province, Indonesia on the 28th of April 2012, Saturday, from 20:15 up to 21:15.

Trangkil Sugar Factory held Selamatan Giling (thanksgiving celebration for sugar milling). The event presented various entertainment for the factory's employee and their families. Public audiences were also welcome (mainly residence of Trangkil village).

Dr. Harry Prayogo, D'Rowman Romiruz, Ferdian Rahardjo, and Silvan Prayogo performed magic shows on behalf of Semarang Magic Community. We departed from Mitra Laboratory Clinic at 11:30 am on the 28th of April 2012. Then, we had a great lunch at Rahayu Restaurant in Demak at 13:00. Despite the heavy traffic, we arrived in Pati city at 14:45. We toured around the tranquil Pati city.

We took an hour rest in Kencana Hotel (Pati city) before we headed to Trangkil Sugar Factory. We arrived at the factory by 17:20. The helpful staffs of Trangkil Sugar Factory immediately welcome us and assisted us in preparation for the magic show. The staffs let us prepare in their huge laboratory, next to the stage.

After a series of dances and songs, our turn to entertain came at 20:15. Silvan Prayogo was the first Semarang magician to perform. He produced a sword from a silk and several more fantastic magic shows with dice, coins, and the feather rings. Silvan Prayogo also invited a boy among the audiences to help him capture a dragon.

Then, D'Rowman Romiruz replaced Silvan Prayogo's spot and continued with a heart pounding magic show. D'Rowman Romiruz made audiences gasped when he, blind-folded, stabbed on balloons. The balloons were hold by a gentleman audience on several critical locations of his body. D'Rowman Romiruz also astonished audiences with umbrella production and mask magic effects.

The third Semarang Magic Community magician to perform was Ferdian Rahardjo. Ferdian Rahardjo is one of the youngest Semarang Magic Community members. He's a year 9 student (third year Junior High School) of Domenico Savio. He performed on behalf of Semarang Magic Community last February 2012 in Children with Disabilities Foundation in Semarang city. Ferdian Rahardjo performed a complete 10 minutes-magic show routine that consists of silk magic, cane productions, and umbrella productions. He inspired children at Trangkil sugar factory as a young magician.

The magic show parade was ended with the performance of dr. Harry Prayogo, a senior magician from Semarang. Dr. Harry Prayogo performed playful comedy magic acts with children. Dr. Harry Prayogo fooled a boy with burning handkerchief. He also transformed a burning tissue into a bowlful of candies.

It was a great journey to Pati city to entertain at Trangkil Sugar Factory. Semarang Magic Community looks forward for more great magic activities to share the joy of magic.

On the 9th of March 2012, Friday, Semarang Magic Community had its 10th Gathering. It was a close gathering only for Semarang Magic Community members. The gathering focused on the final preparation of Garuda Merlion Magic Convention. Garuda Merlion Magic Convention was a magic convention organized by Semarang Magic Communityand International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM) Ring 115 Singapore. The convention had been a hot discussion topic months earlier.

Garuda Merlion Magic Convention would be a historical event for Indonesian magicians because it was the first magic convention in Indonesia organized and attended by magicians of two nations, Indonesia and Singapore.

The gathering discussed matters such as the convention programs,  care for the Singaporean guests, the promotional materials, the entry ticket price, tasks distribution, etc.

The discussion agreed to make the entry price as economical as possible so that many Indonesians, especially Semarang Magic Community members, could enjoy this important event. Thus, we agreed on the Rp. 125 000 ($US 14) per person for a two-days magic convention entry price tag. It was the most economical magic convention price in Indonesia since the two-days programs included magic lectures and magic shows by foreign master magicians. Furthermore, dinners and snacks were included in the entry price. The magic convention was never meant for profit gaining as the IBM 115 Singapore stressed months earlier.

Although the magic convention was estimated to run on a limited budget, we promised to do our best to care for the Singaporean guests during their stay in Semarang. We had to make this as a special occasion with whatever we have to offer.

We have surveyed several meeting / gathering locations (e.g. hotels). Unfortunately, we could not afford their offered prices. Thus, Istana restaurant on MT Haryono 836 street was selected as the convention location. We did the Ninth Gathering (Magic Nite) last January 2012 in Istana restaurant. It has air-conditioning, adequate meeting facilities (e.g. sound system, LCD screen, etc), delicious food, and economical price.

The discussion agreed to have a magic competition in Garuda Merlion Magic Convention. However, the competition was for Indonesian magicians only. The competition award should be from the IBM 115 Singapore to make it more valuable for the winners. However, there would be no monetary reward for the winners. Other forms of additional awards would be offered.

We agreed to keep looking for sponsors for financial and promotional assistance to support GarudaMerlion Magic Convention. We would also promote the convention through internet social media such as Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Semarang Magic Community also searched for Indonesian magicians to give magic lectures and / or to perform during the Garuda Merlion MagicConvention. Uncle Valentino had tried to contact many Indonesian magicians. However, none gave a confirmed positive response.

After an intense two - three hours discussion, Semarang Magic Community members indulge themselves in delicious Indonesian dinner in dinner boxes.

The gathering was made more interesting when Yustika Fatimah (our new member) andKael (Imanuel Yudi) performed magic shows. They peformed close up magic with cards. Then, Aditya Agunk and Rowman Romiruz performed skillful card florish.

We emphasized to do the best for Garuda Merlion Magic Convention. It would be our historical moment to be the first Indonesian magic organization to organize an international magic convention in Indonesia.

Semarang Magic Community: Three Vs 2000

Semarang Magic Community (Komunitas Sulap Semarang) was honored on the 4th of March 2012, Sunday, to perform a magic show in a drawing and coloring contest, "My Green Semarang". This event was held on the fifth floor of Sri Ratu department store (Pemuda Street, Semarang City, Central Java Province, Indonesia). This event was organized by Semarang Kunthi Rotary Club dan Thalassaemia Indonesia Foundationto raise funds for Thalassaemia children. Approximately 2000 people with kindergarten and elementary school students majority attended "My Green Semarang".

Thalassaemia is an inherited genetic disease that affects the haemoglobin of red blood cells. Haemoglobin carries oxygen to be distributed in our body through blood circulation. Haemoglobin defect in thalassaemia children is fatal. Thalassaemia children without proper care usually die before adulthood. Treatment such as blood transfusion and medicines are very expensive. Stem Cells transplantation offers the best cure to this day. Stem Cells transplantation unfortunately very expensive (approximately hundred thousands $USD). Thalassaemia is commonly found among Asians.

My Green Semarang registration opened at 9:00 a.m on the fifth floor of Sri Ratu Department Store. Visitors gathered at the hall entrance where the drawing and coloring contest was. Magic show preparation took place near the stage before more visitors arrived. The contest officially started at 10:00 a.m.

Some children participants and the thalassaemia children singing group sang a few songs at the beginning of My Green Semarang. The committee then asked parents to stay away from their children during the contest. The committee distributed the drawing papers. Semarang Magic Community magicians on location at this time were Rowman Romiruz, Silvan Prayogo, and Yustika Fatimah.

The first magic show began at 11:00 by dr. Harry Susanto Prayogo. His magic showwere the undamaged silk after multiple knife penetrations, international flags production from an empty box, and a shrinking deck of poker cards that eventually vanished. A girl tried to imitate dr. Harry Prayogo's every move when he burnt a handkerchief. dr. Harry Prayogo's handkerchief was unharmed. On the other hand, flame made a hole on the girl's handkerchief.  

dr. Harry Prayogo magic show became more exciting when he introduced a duck that correctly guessed three cards randomly selected by three different kids. dr. Harry Prayogo fabulously ended his magic show by magically transferring a colorful fabric from an umbrella into a bag hold by a boy. 

The second drawing and coloring session started soon after dr. Harry Prayogo magic show ended. Aditya Agunk and Dodox Decaprio arrived on location to prepare their magic show. Rowman Romiruz showed off his Card Fluorish skill while waiting his fellow magicians' turn to perform.

The second magic show session started at 13:40. The stage had been surrounded by children for 20 minutes when winners from the first session drawing and coloring contest were announced by the committee.

Dodox Decaprio began the second magic show by transforming a flaming torch into a cane. Then, he transformed another cane into two red silks in a blink of an eye. Dodox Decaprio astonished audiences with giant rings magic show that magically linked together.

Audiences became more excited when Aditya Agunk asked them to imitate his arms and hands position. Children were more bewildered when Aditya Agunk pour water into a newspaper without spilling any. The water turned into orange juice instead.

Kids rushed toward Aditya Agunk and Dodox Decaprio to take candies from a pan. The pas previously contained a piece of tissue. Then Aditya Agunk and Dodox Decaprioturned it into candies. All candies disappeared within seconds.

Despite the delicious candies, kids immediately focused their attention back onto Aditya Agunk and Dodox Decaprio. Both Semarang Magic Community (SMC) young magicians then played a guessing-game with the kids using three silks (two green and one yellow silks). Kids were asked to watch the yellow silk movement. The kids were excited to point out Dodox Decaprio's mistakes every time he moved the yellow silk from left to right. Suddenly, the yellow silk jumped between the green silks in front of thousands eyes. The kids went quiet in awe to this magic effect.

The kids curiosity was too high to handle by these two Semarang Magic Communitymagicians. The kids once again tried to expose the magic secret of the vanishing glass from a tray that was held in Aditya Agunk's hand. Kids forced Aditya Agunk to repeat his magic act. Aditya Agunk hesitantly repeated his show with the glass and tray. However, this time, the glass completely vanished. The kids could not find any secrets after careful examination on Aditya Agunk's glass and tray.

The amused Audiences dismissed themselves after the magic shows. The Semarang Magic Community magicians then pack up their properties before posing with the brand new  Semarang Magic Community's X-Banner.

Semarang Magic Community is grateful to Semarang Kunthi Rotary Club, The Indonesian Thalassaemia Foundation, Sri Ratu Department Store, and other supportive entities for their trust on us to perform magic shows in front of thousands of people. We are also proud to make a good contribution for Indonesian children with Thalassaemia. We hope to participate in other social events.

Semarang Magic Community magicians received an honor to present magic shows for children with disabilities during the third anniversary of Semarang Kids Community(Komunitas Cah Semarang: KCS). The event took place on the 11th of February 2012, Saturday in Wisma Bhakti building at The Counseling Foundation for Children with Disabilities (YPAC) in Semarang City, Central Java Province, Indonesia.

The first magician to cast a spell was Aditya Agunk. His magic mishaps drew laughters and wonders on the children. Aditya Agunk placed a tissue paper into an empty metallic pot. He burnt the tissue paper while holding the pot. The pot got too hot for him to hold. Children laughed as he panicked. He quickly closed the flaming pot. Then, he said a few magic words. Finally, he opened the pot lid to reveal a potfull of candies to be distributed for the children. Children enjoyed the candies while wondering what just happened. 

Daniel was the next amazing magician to perform. He too performed a comedy magicfor the children. Daniel teased them with an egg that magically appear and disappear. He taught a rope magic to the MC. Magic did not happen despite the MC's effort to imitate Daniel's movements. More surprises from Daniel's hands came up instead. Children laughed at this magical moment.

Ferdian Rahardjo elegantly closed the magic show with a classic magic routine. He performed magic cane productions and colorful silk magic. Ferdian Rahardjo also magically transformed green beans into water. Ferdian Rahardjo is a junior high school student, which makes him the youngest member of Semarang Magic Community.Semarang Magic Community encourages and provides opportunities for youngmagicians to perform magic shows. Thus, preparing for future great Indonesian magicians.

Semarang Magic Community is thankful for Semarang Kids Community and YPAC for the opportunity and assistance. Last but not least, many thanks to dr. Harry Prayogowho has prepared the magicians and their logistic supports.

Semarang Magic Community is happy and proud to entertain general public withmagic shows. Semarang Magic Community presents the Garuda Merlion Magic Convention in Semarang on the 11th of April 2012 up to the 13th of April 2012. This event is arranged by Semarang Magic Community and Singapore International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM) Ring 115 (The Great Wong Ring). This will be a great opportunity for magicians and general public to learn magic, see great magic shows, purchase excellent quality magic show properties, and more importantly, make close friendship with Singaporean magicians.

Magic Nite: The 9th Semarang Magic Community Magic Gathering

Semarang Magic Community opened 2012 with a bang, Magic Nite. Magic Nite was the The Ninth Semarang Magic Community Gathering. Magic Nite opened for public. It was held on the 21st of January 2012, Saturday, from 16:00 up to 21:45 in Istana restaurant on Jl. MT Haryono 836, Semarang, Central Java Province, Indonesia. Magic Nite shared information and programs of Semarang Magic Community in 2012 such as the coming Mini Magic Convention with Singapore IBM 115 on April 2012.

Approximately 60 people attended Magic Nite. The guests were magicians and magic properties collectors. Magic Nite was an excellent time to enjoy and learn magic. Tickets were sold at Rp. 25 thousands (± $USD 2.5) per person for Semarang Magic Community members and Rp. 35 thousands (± $USD 3.5) per person for non-members. Ticket price included dinner.

Magic Nite presented magic lectures by Mr. Paulus Sentana, the former president of IBM Surabaya Ring, and dr. Harry Susanto Prayogo, a senior magician with international magic shows experience. Mr. Paulus Sentana taught techniques to set up brilliant magic effects such as a mind-reading prediction, torn and restored newspaper magic, and many more clever ideas.

Dr. Harry Susanto Prayogo taught fantastic magic effects with simple and easy preparations. For example, transforming a silk into a real egg. An audience laughed in disbelieve when he peeled the egg shell off.

Magic Nite also had a Magic Dealer session.  This Magic Dealer session, Mr. Paulus Sentana sold a lot his magic merchandize he brought from Surabaya. Guests loved his merchandize. He sold the appearing flower bouquets, magic fans, and many more interesting items. The prices ranged from Rp. 50 thousands (± $USD 5) up to Rp. 500 thousands (± $USD 50).

Magic Nite was surprised by the appearance of The Masked Magician, Mr. Valentino. Really? This Mr. Valentino is from Semarang, Indonesia, owner of Valentino Magic Shop. Mr. Valentino (Uncle Valent) was the MC for Magic Nite. He dressed up as the legendary Masked Magician.

At 18:40 the Indonesian version Masked Magician announced dinner time. Istana Restaurant served the delicious dinner. The dinner set consisted of Indonesian style fried chicken, fried noodle, vegetables, and rice.

Soon after dinner, a magic shows parade began. Magic shows parade featuredSemarang Magic Community magicians such as Silvan Prayogo, Dodox Decaprio,Cecil Danielo, and Aditya Agunk. Guest star magicians made the magic shows parade more special. The guest star magicians were Mr. Paulus Sentana from IBM Surabaya, El Cazo Dejavu from Solo, Dimitri Aditya from Surabaya, and two magicians from The Master RCTI TV shows, Edo Shadow and Krishnaji. Bebbo Denoberto presented a different show, a stand up comedy act, at the end of Magic Nite.

Semarang Magic Community expresses gratitude to our new member, Gusti Mulya Devitto, for his graphic designs on poster, brochures, tickets, and banner.
